Colonels win Potato Bowl 2006

 

Island Construction Colonels claim The Potato Bowl with convincing 42-19 win over the McKenna Bros Rollo Bay Wild Cats.

 

Offensive MVP Sean CurleyThe Colonels have proven without a doubt they deserve to be called Potato Bowl Champions. In a season where it seemed everything was going against the Colonels, they were able to over come those hurtles and claim the title.

 

MVP Offensive player of the game was QB, Sean Curley from the Colonels, passing for 3 TD’s and running for another.

 

 

Defensive MVP Andrew MacCormackMVP for Defensive Player of the game was Andrew MacCormack of the Wild Cats. MacCormack had 2 interceptions, four open field tackles, and knocked down four passes.

 

Nick Doucette for the Colonels also had a great game, both running and catching the ball. Nick scored two TD’s and with his powerful running was able to get the Colonels great field position.

 

1st Quarter: Colonels opened the scoring with a QB Sean Curley completing 25 yard TD pass to Adam McDonald. Convert was good. Score End of 1st Quarter 7-0 Colonels.

 

2nd Quarter: Colonels with their strong defense blocked Wild Cats punt & recovered the ball on the Wild Cats 25 yard line. Wild Cats defense held and forced the Colonels to attempt a field goal. Field Goal was short and Marcus Dunphy returned the kick to the Colonels 45 yard line. This set up Dennis Mahar for a 45 yard TD run, convert good. Score now tied 7-7.

 

With 2:30 left in the second half, Colonels make a poor snap and Wild Cats recover the ball on the Colonels 20 Yard line. Marcus Dunphy ran it in for a TD but was called back on a penalty. With a great 20 yard TD run by Logan Sauve with lead blocking by Andrew MacCormack the Wild Cats were able to take the lead, convert missed. Score 13-7 Wild Cats.

 

Colonels got the ball back with just over one minute left in the 2nd half but with the accurate passing of MVP Sean Curly, the Colonels were able to move the ball down the field with 30 yard pass to Dan McAleer and then 20 pass to David Woiken. Colonels had the ball on the 1 yard line with 1 second left in the half; Colonels with a QB keeper was able to punch it in for the TD and take the lead for good. This seemed to take the wind out of the Wild Cats going into half time. Score 14-13 Colonels, convert good.

 

3rd Quarter: Colonels opened the 2nd half fast and hard. Colonels QB Curley hooked up with a 25 yard pass completion to Kieran Goodwin followed by a short swing pass to Nick Doucette on the flats who ran for 15 yards and the TD, convert good. Score 21-13 Colonels.

 

Again, the Colonels defense came up big with another blocked punt, Colonels recovered the ball on Wild Cats 8 yard line. Dan Banks with a strong 6 yd run up the middle scored TD, convert good. End of 3rd Quarter Score 28-13 Colonels.

 

4th Quarter: In need of a score, Wild Cats were marching and were on the Colonels 20 yd line when QB of Wild Cats, Desi Peters, threw an interception. Mexico Flores of the Colonels returned the interception 50 yards, all the way to the Wild Cats 20 yd line. Nick Doucette of the Colonels ran in from 2 yd line for TD and convert good. Score 35-13 Colonels.

 

On following kick off, Wild Cats fumble. Colonels ran the reverse with David Woiken for 30 yards & then a 20 yd TD pass to Kieran Goodwin, Convert good. Score 42-13 Colonels.

 

Wild Cats finally answered with Logan Sauve running it in for a 40 yard TD for the final score of the game, convert missed. Score 42-19 Colonels.
