Colonels Hang On

 

 

The Island Construction Colonels secure a place in the Potato Bowel next weekend against the Cornwall Timber Wolves with a hard fought victory over the Souris Wild Cats 12-8 at the Simmons Field yesterday.

 

The Colonels defense showed up and shut the Wild Cats offense down demonstrating why the Colonels are defending Island Champions.

 

Jeff Hiller continues with his great running with a 20 yard TD run in first quarter.  

 

1 St Quarter ends 6-0 for Colonels.

 

Colonels QB Chris Wigmore connected with former QB Drew Reid for a 11 yard TD pass, convert missed.

 

The lone score for the Wild Cats was Will Miller kicking for a single point.

 

Half ends 12-1

 

The Wild Cats came out strong at he first of the 2 nd half with Andrew McCormack intercepting a Chris Wigmore pass and returning it 42 yards to the Colonels 5 yard line. The Colonels defense stood strong turning back a 4 and goal with Evan Giddings making the tackle. Colonels take over on their own 7 yard line on downs.

 

The Wild Cats defense answered the call and held the Colonels which forced the Colonels to punt. Shortly later Denis Mahar finally gets a TD with a 15 yard run around the right side. Will Miller's convert try good.

 

Score 12-8

 

3 rd Quarter ends 12-8

 

With the Colonels once again looking to score and put the game away, Nathan Conway came up with a huge 15 yard sack on Colonels QB Chris Wigmore. Colonels forced to put.

 

With less than 3 minutes in the game Wild Cats are at mid field needing a TD to advance to the finals. Adam MacDonald for the Colonels makes the interception which clinches the game for the Colonels.

 

Game ends 12-8 Colonels.
