Cats Hit Hard

 

The Cooke Clippers went down to defeat to a hard hitting Souris Wild Cats. The Clippers and Wild Cats finished tied for 3rd with 2 wins each.

 

The Wild Cats came to play and play they did with hard hitting in your face play. There will be sore bodies tomorrow after this one.

 

On the opening drive Clippers defense stood strong and held the Wild Cats on 4 down on their own 1 yard line. Clippers took over on downs. The Wildcats were also up for the challenge & did not allow the Clippers to advance. With forth down and long Clippers conceded 2 points by kneeing the ball in the end zone.

 

1st quarter ends with Wild Cats ahead 2-0

 

Again with Wild Cats deep in Clippers zone due to great 35 yard run by Wild Cats QB, Ben McIsaac which set up a 1st and goal from the Clippers 1 yard line. The Clippers defense again was standing their ground forcing the Wildcats into a 4th and 3. The Wild Cats would not be denied with Denis Mahar running the Sweep for a 3 yard TD run. Alex Lutes broke through and blocked the Convert

 

Score 8-0 but shortly after the Clippers QB Justin Murphy hit Colin Montgomery for a 25 yard TD pass. Justin Murphy kicked the extra point, Score 8-7 for Wild Cats.

 

With the game back and for a bad snap to Clippers punter allowed Wild Cats to take over on Clippers 40 yard line. With 34 seconds left in the half Denis Mahar made a great 40 yard TD run. Wild Cats went for the two points with Will Miller running it in.

 

1st half ends 16-7

 

On the opening kick off, Will Miller kicked the ball into the Clippers end-zone, 1 point conceded. Score 17-7.

 

With the Clipper offense unable to move the ball due to an interception by Dawson Burke who returned the ball to the Clippers 18 yard line. The Clippers defense was called on once again and they answered, holding the Wildcats & forced them to kick field goal. Field Goal was missed & single point conceded. Score 18-7

 

The biggest blow for the Clippers offense was Brock Lamers going down to injury which hurt the Clippers offense for the rest of the game. With the Clippers now going more to the passing game, Marshall Dunphy keep the heat on young QB Justin Murphy and dropped him for a 10 yard loss.

 

The Clippers were moving the ball again but an unfortunate fumble after a reception gave the ball back to Wildcats and on the next play Wild Cats QB, Ben McIsaac hooked up with Aaron Fisher for a 55 yard TD pass play. Wildcats went for the 2 points but Charlie McCardle came up with a great open field hit and denied Wildcats anymore points.

 

End of 3rd quarter, 24-7 Wildcats leading.

 

With time now against the Clippers the had to take some chances, on 4th and 3 Clipper went for it and was stopped. Wildcats take over on downs on the Clippers 40 yard line. Wildcats came with a much better balanced offensive attack, this time it was Tyler Gallant making a great 15 yard run setting up the final blow to the Clippers. Denis Mahar once again scores a 8 yard TD run on the sweep, and again with the Wild Cats looking for more points was stopped when they went for the extra 2 points.

 

Game ends 30-7 for the Souris Wild Cats.

 

Alex Lutes had his best game of the year, playing both sides of the ball, making receptions as well as getting interceptions. Great game.

 

The Clippers will face the Cornwall TimberWolves next week in the Semi finals
