The 2006 PEI Tackle Football League, under their new league president Jeff Cooke are preparing for a new season which will see the previous three teams consisting of the defending champions, Souris Wildcats along with the Charlottetown Colonels and Cornwall Timberwolves looking to unseat a strong and experienced Souris squad. Newly elected Cooke is looking for newer and better things ahead for the league: "We are looking to expand over the next year to three teams from Charlottetown area and hopefully one from Summerside. PEI Tackle Football is very pleased with the two new artificial fields in Charlottetown and Cornwall which teams will be able to play on. It will be great both for the spectators as well as the players."
Team registrations will be held during the next two weeks with the league set to commence in early September. Team contacts are for the Wildcats, Eric Conway at 687-1318, Timberwolves, Mark MacDougall at 368-1674 and Colonels, Carl Adams at 569-5358. All players must be registered with Football PEI prior to playing. Age limits for players are 15 to 18 as of December 31, 2006 (Born 1988-91).
Current Football PEI President Danny Comeau is excited about the interest shown in football over the past year, especially with the development of the new field turf fields at UPEI and Cornwall. "The league looks promising & hopeful with the strong leadership shown by Jeff Cooke in stepping up to lead the PEITFL. His passion & drive should help to create a great foundation for us to go forward. Our thanks to Mitch Tweel for helping out in the past & congratulations to Jeff on his new appointment as President."
