Colonels slip past Wildcats

 

The Island Construction Colonels slip past Souris Wild Cats 15-14 in a late charge by the Colonels.

 

The surprising Wild Cats gave with limited players gave the Colonels all they could handle. The Wild Cats led going into the for the quarter 14-0.

 

The Colonels had to look deep inside and mounted a great comeback. The Wild Cats with a short bench started to so signs of being tried and the Colonels took full advantage.

 

The Wild Cats controlled the play for three quarters with outstanding defense and great open field tackling. Denis Mahar & Will Miller lead the attached both on defense and offense, with strong running, and power tackling they set the tone for the wild cats. Wild Cats QB, Ben MacIssac showed great patience both with the running and passing game. Will Miller caught a TD pass from Ben MacIssac and ran in a two point conversion. The other TD was a 50 yard run by Denis Mahar.

 

The Colonels finally answered with the play of their QB, Drew Reid who through for two touch downs, to Adam MacDonald converted on one two point play and the other was stopped.

 

The score was tried with less than three minutes left in the game with the Wild Cats in the march when the Colonels Richard Lush caused the Wild Cats to cough up the ball and P.Y. Nadeau dropped on the lose ball. The Colonels now used their power runner, Jeff Hillier to run left and then right to set up a forth down punt in which the Colonels were able to kick out of the end zone thus giving the Colonels the lead for the first time, 15-14.

 

The Wild Cats got the ball back and were marching but just ran out of time.

 

This was one of the best games in the last couple of years; if you missed it you missed a great game.
